Amanda Ba
Narratives of diasporic identity and retrieval of memory through psychological symbolism are common through-lines in Amanda's work... specifically the concept of animacy tugged out of its linguistic home and applied to race and queer relations, and the naturecultural relations of the world at large.
Amanda Ba is a painter who lives and works between New York City and London. She was born in Columbus, Ohio, but spent the first five years of her life with her grandparents in Hefei, China. Narratives of diasporic identity and retrieval of memory through psychological symbolism are common through-lines in her work. Currently her paintings also draw upon the critical theory of Mel Chen and Donna Haraway, more specifically the concept of animacy tugged out of its linguistic home and applied to race and queer relations, and the naturecultural relations of the world at large.
