Hynde is not precious about her paintings and approaches the whole process with a punk attitude, claiming to have 'got waylaid by touring in a rock band for 40 years. Now I’m more focused on painting.’  Hynde considers herself an outsider artist as she is self-taught, however the outcomes are authentic, honest and disarming.

Born in Akron, Ohio in 1951, Chrissie Hynde rose to fame with her musical talents, however cites painting as her first love.  In recent years Hynde has created a large body of work which primarily moves between portraiture, still life and abstraction.
In 2019, Mass MoCA held an exhibition of nearly 200 of her paintings, which was the first institutional presentation of Hynde’s work to date.
