Overview

Kate uses painting to look at how we interact; concerned with the potential to be passive in the age of information overload, she paints to fight her own passivity.

Kate Dunn uses the abstract language of paint to access authentic experience. She received classical training in Florence, Italy; where for four years she worked solely from life, with natural light and a model. Upon returning to London, she was faced with the reality that she had no connection to her medium outside of its use to replicate: paint as flesh, paint as cloth, but what of paint as paint?

Kate uses painting to look at how we interact; concerned with the potential to be passive in the age of information overload, she paints to fight her own passivity. The work often shows the violence of that fight, however, it also presents the devotion, a painter in constant battle to re-experience her medium.
