Albie Romero is a Spanish artist based in London, UK. His work is an intellectual inquiry of the process of oil painting. He explores the boundaries of picture making and the endless possibilities of oil paint. Having experienced a rigid Catholic upbringing combined with esoteric beliefs in the paranormal and obscure, Albie developed a powerful fascination for human belief systems. He studied belief and mysticism throughout his life and is a connoisseur of entheogenic alkaloids present in plants used in many different cultures throughout history to acquire altered states of consciousness. As an agnostic atheist, he explores these themes from an outsider's perspective. He uses his research as subject matter to transmute profound ideas into beautiful paintings that possess a quasi-sacred nature of their own. Albie’s practice is based in photography, he was introduced to photography by his father when he was a child. He works from his own photographs but also from found imagery like documentaries or tv archives.
