A homage to the feeling I had when I first saw Paula Rego's Dog Woman as a teen, the amazement at seeing a woman depicted as thick and uncivilized, on all fours barking. In this painting I am depicting the way I see my sexuality, something that has been locked away since I was a young woman, something unfamiliar and untamed. There is a glee in being unflattering, embracing the rolls of fat and hanging breasts like that of a nursing dog, a gesture to embrace the dehumanisation experienced in this body. As I recover from the sexual and emotional trauma I experienced, my desire wants to come to the surface, but the strength of the feeling and its primality makes it feel like a frothing beast.
