Beyond the Veil

Guts Gallery is excited to present Beyond the Veil, a group show of artists whose work explores themes of interiority, liminality and solitude. 

There is a distinct quietness that pervades all of the work within Beyond The Veil. Through their practice, these artists have created silent, hidden worlds in which the inner workings of the soul can be laid bare. These works are shrine-like, intimate zones which express feelings of hushed loneliness, fervent desire and serene tranquillity. Each work is a physical manifestation of the inner sanctum where the very nature of one’s own selfhood can be freely and openly explored.

Beyond The Veil resists the high-speed intensity of modern, metropolitan life and chooses instead to dwell on the quiet, subdued moments of one’s interior, emotional world. Throughout the exhibition, the viewer is encouraged to slow down and engage with life on a macro level. Here, fleeting, ephemeral moments are captured with exquisite and tender detail: seconds seem to stretch for millennia as the viewer’s eye traces the soft, luxurious delineations of flesh and objects.

Ultimately, these works resist any simple reading; they push back against the viewer’s intrepid glance and never truly allow them to enter into their secret, inner world. In this sense, each work becomes a veil in itself as it reveals just enough to spark the viewer’s intrigue and conceals that unutterable, ambiguous core from which it draws its otherworldly, secret power.
