The fabric acts as a skin, every mark put upon it is held in the memory of its weave, it stains and seeps through allowing the viewer to be present to its history. The stakes are high here in this painting. Every mark is permanence, no space for fear to be a guide in its making. There is no erasure. The fabric acts as a skin, every mark put upon it is held in the memory of its weave, it stains and seeps through allowing the viewer to be present to its becoming. Between the trees holds a tension between the knit of the fabric and the gesture of the paint, balancing between a deep space and a surface of illusionary sparkle. The fabric becomes medium, acting as colour fields that call for me to add additional forms within the painting, a new block of fabric folds between the narrative and swims in-between colour, form and gesture asking you the viewer to stay longer and witness its affect.
