Xiao Wang

Overview
Combining dramatic, moody color palettes with a realist approach, Wang’s figurative paintings draw visual and conceptual inspiration from Romanticism, the Symbolist Movement, and Magical Realism. Through examining visual arts that reflect rapid social and cultural historical change, he explores the contemporary psyche, particularly around topics such as politics, Chinese/Asian identity, and environmental crises.
Xiao Wang is a Chinese painter who lives and works in Brooklyn, NY. He studied at the Glasgow School of where he received his BFA degree in Painting and Printmaking. He continued his study at San Francisco Art Institute and earned his MFA degree in Painting. Wang has shown internationally in The United States and Europe. His work has been featured in publications such as Juxtapoz Magazine, Hi-Fructose Magazine, and New American Paintings. Wang has also attended artist residency programs at MASS MoCA (MA), the Vermont Studio Center (VT), and Root Division (CA).
