Georg Wilson (b. 1998) is a London based painter whose work peers between the intertwined layers of England’s folklore, history, landscape and custom. In ‘The Untamed’ two of Georg’s creatures are seen riding atop a brightly coloured orange fox through a dark and eerie forest. Around them, bright, fluorescent moths flutter about and thin green stems sprout from the murky ground suggesting new life and springtime renewal. In the background, a barren hilltop stretches across the composition and two luminous moons hang in the moody, swirling sky.

Georg Wilson’s work offers a glimpse into a world that is dictated by ancient rhythms and cyclical, seasonal change. As the viewer looks at ‘The Untamed’ they can feel that they have interrupted the creatures’ mischievous little game. The creatures’ dark, shrewd eyes meet the eyes of the viewer and confront the viewer for peeking into their world.
