Lisa Liljeström
Lisa Liljeström’s air-brushed, often monochromatic paintings exemplify a restless, post-internet story about observing. She paints fragmented and transitory film stills, boots, paws, car seats and working hands with a hazy and airy texture. Digitally distorting an archive of found images, she captures a sense of interiority and intimacy reminiscent of waking up mid-dream and trying to fall back into a self-constructed world. Thus, hyper-focused frames straddle the lines of familiarity and momentarily invite a gaze towards strange details of the everyday.
Lisa Liljeström (b. 1998, Härnösand, Sweden) lives and works in Oslo, Norway. She received a BFA from the Valand Academy in Gothenburg, Sweden. Recent exhibitions include Sarah Kravitz Gallery, London (2024); ‘Infinity Pool’, Hall Gallery, Gothenburg, Sweden (2024); ‘No Love in My Hometown’, Hos Arne, Oslo (2023); ‘The Waiting Room’, Coulisse Gallery, Stockholm (2023); ‘Arena’, Västernorrlands Museum, Härnösand, Sweden (2023); ‘How to pack for a surprise trip’, Galleri Monitor, Gothenburg, Sweden (2021).
