We are thrilled to announce a limited edition print release by the incredibly talented artist Shadi Al-Atallah. After being featured in major institutional exhibitions at Goldsmiths CCA in London and the Leslie Lohmann Museum of Art in New York, Shadi is back at Guts Gallery with their solo exhibition ‘Fistfight.’
Both of us weightless, 2023 is a continuation of Shadi’s recent exploration of the visceral and psychological nature of violence. In this piece, two figures are locked in a display of brutal combat. The figure on the right dominates the battle as they grapple the other’s legs and slam them on the ground. The falling figure’s arms flail and reach out desperately to grab a hold of something. Each of the figures’ faces is contorted into mask-like expressions of pure aggression and abject pain. In the background, scratchy, roughly drawn suggestions of domestic furniture such as chairs and beds place this conflict uneasily in the home and the bright, dynamic washes of colour add a frenzied intensity to the piece.
Don't miss out on this incredible opportunity to own a piece of Shadi Al-Atallah's work!
