Frogs and amphibians are central to Frederik Exner's recent work and research. Exner finds that the cultural and mythological significance of frogs in different cultures across the globe are strikingly convergent. Frogs are often considered either an omen for fertility, controllers of rain and water or lastly transformed - or yet-to-become humans. They are in quite a few creational myths and are even considered to be the very source of human existence. Exner is especially interested in the transformation and creation myths as they suggest a deep but ambivalent connection between humans and this hairless and tailless animal.
