'Yes - they named her after the dawn' explores the endless possibilities of mark-making while juggling themes of childhood nostalgia and adolescence. I used imagery from 1950 Walt Disney animations to serve as a backdrop and using elements of the chosen scene to structure and guide my marks.

To create this piece, I began by laying the canvas on the floor and soaking it in a mix of water-based materials, allowing the different mediums to bleed into each other. Once the canvas was thoroughly saturated, I stretched it and incorporated a frame on one side, both to contain and extend the painting - a balancing act of colour.

In response to the resulting marks, I added oil paints, focusing intently on the interaction between myself and the canvas, listening to its voice. Within this piece I aimed to find a balancing relationship between visceral intuitive mark making and premeditated decisions.
