The work begins with the application of a unique monoprint that is painted onto a sheet of plastic the same size as the surface and then rolled on to the linen. Journey is an inevitable theme within the paintings that can be thought of as corporeal and as one of discovery that is inherent in their making. By merging painting and mono-printing, it creates a space where chance and intention are constantly at odds; the process becomes a battle of losing and finding space.
‘Weathered’ as I was beating the painting down the surface with this process gradually like rain or wind, a surface that has changed both appearance and texture from my manipulation. Synonyms of ‘weathered’: endured, lived, rode (out), withstood, was. The painting remains in the act of painting this that once “was”.
