In the theater of flashing red and blue lights, our eyes wander for the rush of a quick peek into someone’s privacy unfolding on the public stage, the unknown tragedy behind the windshield. Rather than the climactic moment itself, my work teases with a glimpse into a scene that has just passed or is about to unfold. Hinting at the observer in relation to the subject, my focus is on POV, pulling from cinema, ads, and the world below the knees. The starting point of each work is a performance staged in borrowed spaces, from short stay hotel rooms to inhabited apartments, all subjected to the scrutiny of a bright hunting light. My paintings abruptly crop and reassemble moments from these rehearsed dances - sometimes stumbles at best - between narratives, dealing with the codependency of desire and shame inherent to a little more than an unassuming bystander, the storyline residing in the breath taken between one scene and another. A single image never gets its spotlight.
